@Nighttiger thank you very very much for this guide! The content is great and everything is put together in a neat format :) I have used it to compare my technique to yours and it helped me put a little bit more discipline in my testing procedure and understanding which parameter has the biggest impact. I think it is a great guide to beginners and a good reminder/cheat sheet for experienced drivers as well :)

The only think that I would like to mention is that even though the procedure is great, it might be worth to emphasize in the guide that prior to starting anything and follow the procedure by the book you should be aware of the characteristics of the track and the car and define some setup goals accordingly. Ex : at Le Mans you should optimize your aero plateform with the goal of reducing drag in mind so you should start with this step and optimize everything around it. I think you tell something about it in the introduction but it might be worth emphazising that.

Appart from some typo mistakes the guide is great and a great tool! :) hat down to you :)

I just wanted to say a quick 'Thank You!' for this guide again. It has really helped me understand the fundamentals of setting up a race car. I wouldn't have been able to participate in the Group Stages ranked event without Nighttiger's fantastic guide, for example. I've even started driving the recalcitrant Aston Martin Vantage GT3 in open lobbies, now that I've created a setup using Nighttiger's sublime guide! (Sweet geezuss, that thing is sexy. :wideyed: )
Beyond that, I feel confident and excited for all the race events in the future, as I now know what to change when tuning a car to my taste.

So yes, thank you big time, @Nighttiger!

Exactly what I wanted to accomplish with this guide! Thanks for the compliments, means a lot :)

Hi, i just read your guide, thanks for all hard work you put into it. One question though which confuses me in particular in pcars2, how does abs influence braking (what setting to use under which condition) and basically the same for tc, should i keep it low on tarmac or just the opposite (it defaults to 10%)?

If I understand correctly, the percentage setting determines WHEN the ABS or TC is going to kick in, so what the threshold value is. The LOW or HIGH setting determines how severe the assist kicks in.

So putting it on 10% TC means that the system is allowing 10% wheel spin before it activates. The LOW or HIGH setting determines the way it does, only limiting the throttle the ICE is putting out or just kill the throttle entirely.

Thanks, much clearer now

Thumbs up for your guide @Nighttiger. This one is a real gem!
There's only one small issue which I have with it: I can't print it (says printing is not allowed)...
Could you maybe PM me a pdf with the guide so I can print it and have it accessible when setting up the car?

Anyone know how would you interpret this?

It doesn't quite seem to fit under anything in your guide. I don't actually know what telemetry is trying to tell me. Just a moment before, the travel was at 0.2, but no red message. a moment later at 0.7 it decides red is the way forward.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@UnstopaPaul travel means how much is left on suspension before it hits bump stops. Height is how much there is until body of the car hits the ground. What going to red means i have no idea might be that it just hit the 0.0?

Well made a video on that some months ago!

When you bottom out the chassis (height 0.0) the bar and travel flash red, you can see it in the rear left wheel.

hmm - but my height at that point is 2.4 cm, and the travel is not 0 either. Hence my confusion

I believe it only happens when it quickly hits 0.0, even for a milisecond. Couldn't find another explanation tbh.

I tried running a very tall bump stops but it didn't seem to trigger the red (it causes you to run out of spring) so I am not really sure what else it could be as it isn't the suspension itself.

i also have some doubts on that...the reason is the i honestly have no idea what height to use.i can understand if the travel thing hits red a lot i should make the bump smaller and vice versa but the height i have no clue.

I really hope the 10% means that the system tries to limit tire slip to 10%. On just longitudinal acceleration 10-15% maybe 20% on some tires is the value that gives best acceleration. When lateral forces from cornering are being added 8-12% longitudinal tire slip is about the limit on most cars.

With the red flashing hud I wondered about that too at some point but I have no clue, it surely does not indicate 0.0 travel or height, it must be something else maybe damper speed related maybe something for debugging that was left in the game.

Interesting thought. Damper slow to fast transition? But in the video both rear wheels see similar travel speeds (I've only watched on mobile, so I might be mistaken) , only one flashes red.
I was starting to wonder whether it was to do with dampers too.
