HE vs HPP Pedals (1 Viewer)

I "moved out" of my former gaming room, now wife's home office, and soon to be kids bedroom, to make space for my son. Bought a new rig from Sim Lab, the GT1 evo, a chair and desk to make the most out of the little space available

@grobi0815 Most of our team was on HPP originally. Now most have HE lol. Better brake pedal is what everyone says when they switch to HE. But it all comes down to personal preference.

True, that's why I sent them back after a week of testing.

The HPP Pedals is a rather bad engineering design. Any mechanical engineer would look at it and think, it has "someone designed a pedal box but had no clue what he was doing" written all over it. Don't waste your money guys.

@miagi HPP Pedals have been around for quite a while and are popular. Heck @Bassetts has them and loves them. I’ve tried them and didn’t mind them but personally for me I hate the feeling of hydraulic pedals. I’ve not heard of someone disliking them for the design. They are a great set of pedals however.

They are and I don't regret to that I paid a lot of money for them. I'm enjoying every minute with them.

Nope, those HPP Pedals look exactly like they are designed to appear fancy to ppl that have not much experience in mechanical engineering. From how they are made it's clear that they are expensive but not because of good quality, it's because someone was toying around with manufacturing processes and cad tools. On top of that the designer put too much effort where it doesn't count and too less effort where it does.

I'm interested, too.

I'm new to sim racing and currently have budget-friendly wheel and pedals. I should have some extra money in a few months, though, and I'd like to upgrade at that point.

Tell me, what brand or items should I be looking at if I have a budget of $1,000. And what does HE and HPP stand for?

and HPPs are from HPP http://www.hppsimulation.com/
Main difference is, that the HPPs have hydraulic brake and the HEs work with rubber dampers. Both are high quality pedal manufacturers (sorry @miagi, HPPs are for me hq).
But there are much more manufacturers for pedals, like Ricmotech aso.

As far as HPP goes Mark and his crew are good at what they do. They also make sequential shifters for the Porsche and are regarded as one of the best.

As far as other pedals are concerned here are my list of pedals to consider.
1. Fanatec V3's with Brake Performance Kit.
2. ProtoSimTech PT2
3. Heusinkveld Pro Pedals
4. HPP Pedals
5. Wave Italy
6. Heusinkveld Ultimates
7. Titlton Hydraulics - Richmotech or any other high end manufacturer.

1-4 Are all great choices depending on your budget. 5 onwards you are looking at 1,500+ euros for those pedals.

It's very difficult to choose any sim equipment as you can't just pop down the showroom and try them out like you can a car, you have to trust someone's opinion and reviews.

I found Sim Racing Garage on Youtube, which seems to test and review everything out there and from this, I went for the HE Pros.

In short, HEs only have the rubber dampers. Pedals like Ricmotech have them too, but the also have a fluid container to get a more realistic feeling.

I tried both systems. The HEs have a direct reaction to the pressure input. the pedal way is short even with the softest dampers. The hydraulic system is more realistic like in a real car. At first soft and getting stronger with the way you press the pedals.

I had some problems with my knees after a few days of testing the HEs (a problem some people reported in other forums). Plus i like the more realistic behavior. But that is my opinion.

If you are in Bremen some time you can test the HPPs if you want.

What they mean is that the HPP Pedals have a fake hydraulik system of master cylinder, fluid reservoir and pressure transducer to measure the pressure. While the HEs have a gas-spring to damp the movement of pedals and probably a loadcell to measure the force.

Gas-Springs on the throttle padel is a nice thing, we have that on our Formula Student car too but both Pedalsets are ill advised if they think that the brake padel on a pure hydraulik brake has (hydraulik) damping. The hydraulik fluid in a brake system is there to transmit the pressure, the volum flow is very small. Stepping in the brake pedal on a race car is like kicking a rock (if the brake is bleed well). You have minimal travel and it's like hitting a rock, there can be no damping as there is no movement. What HPP does is expensiv but pointless, a loadcell is equally good in measuring the pedal force as putting pressure on a fluid to measure the pressure of the fluid with a transducer and reverting it into an electric signal exactly like the loadcell does but more expensive. What should be a bigger concern to any driver is that because of this wide and silly hydraulic unit of the HPPs the minimum distance between throttle and brake pedal is quite big...

There are quite a few more flaws visible on first look about the HPP but this post is not about that.
