Welcome @Members to the third round of our Hotlap Championship. The goal is simple, set your fastest time using the in-game time-trial mode, with the car and track combo posted. If you're like me and not a setup god then you can opt to use one of the default presets (loose, stable or OEM - where available) as we'll be running separate divisions for open and default setups.

Date: 1st November 2018 - 30th November 2018
Car: Audi R8 LMP900
Track: Imola

Imola.png

Some basic stuff
If you've previously set a time on this combo and you are unable to beat it, please take a screenshot before leaving the session or your time will be excluded. If you are taking part in the Default Setup division and are unable to beat a time you have previously set on a Custom Setup, then you must record video evidence to prove your time was set on default or your time will NOT be included for the round.

If you are taking part in the 'default' division, you must select an in-built default preset, do NOT match a custom setup to the in-game defaults. We will be using the SMS leaderboards to verify the times and setups used.

The track limits will be defined by the in-game limits, not "Two wheels within the white lines". If those limits seem too loose or too tight, drive your lap accordingly. We will not be reviewing laps unless they are suspiciously fast.

Current Top 5
(Last updated 26/11/2018 - 23:16 UTC)

1. 1:28.879 (C) @Puffpirat
2. 1:29.240 (C) @UnstopaPaul
3. 1:29.642 (D) @fab. ICEMAN
4. 1:29.776 (C) @Jomba
5. 1:29.780 (D) @Cluck

(D) = Default Setup | (C) = Custom Setup

Good luck and have fun, because fun is what this is all about!

I love this car. Such a fun car to drive.

Also, driving on a track and not having the push to overtake button, you can drive and drive and drive. Much easier to get into a rhythm. I still have a long way to go but I can see myself doing a lot of laps in this.

Beautiful combo! I might drive a lap or two when I find time for it :)

The selections for these time-trials are a team effort :)

EDIT : Oh and yeah, it's a great combo. I tested for 4 laps with it and loved it from the word go. There's a lot of grip available but the car will slide and work with you if you want to really push it. It's a big change of pace from the previous round and that's part of the fun of these time-trials :)

Lol... don't have access to PCARS2 at the moment...so I looked for the online time table... took some time to find out that it is registered under Audi R8 :banghead:
Will rebuild my PC this weekend..hopefully...bottleneck will be downloading PCARS2 and a download speed of 22 mbps

Already a bit familiar with Imola... so I should be able to top the table in a couple of weeks :chicken:

Great combo! Did a 1:32.1 after 20 laps, which is the best overall default! (Well, second best, but the chicken doesnt count :))

Damn this is fun. And this helps me learn so much. So satisfying getting a lap right. On my current time I'm losing about 0.2s in the final sector to my potential , but @Cluck, I have no idea how you managed a sub 30 lap. (Queue the other aliens...)

I see your times improving. Pretty soon its RSR 1-2-3 with default setups o_O

I have a potential time of 1:31.05. Below that i doubt i can go.

Cluck's time is just out of this world. I'm waiting to see what other aliens can do ...

Well, RSR does now own the top-3 times on the leaderboard but not with default setup. Yeah, check Puff's time, it's rather quick ;)

Great time on default Cluck! I came close once or twice on default loose but bottled it.

Then decided to trim the car a bit more to my liking :)

It’s a lovely combo. So challenging to push it as far as possible but keeping it in the track limits. Which are quite tight here and there.

I wasn't even able to make the first combination with the default setup...

Also, my fastest time before the current was worse in every corner than the one before, except the chicane at the end of sector 2. And then I spent 2 hours just to beat that time. Can someone tell me how to enjoy hotlapping please, because I'm really bad at it.

I think it just involves a certain degree of frustration. Binning a good lap in the chicane, going just a little bit too wide and getting a cut track, it all adds to the experience. Which makes it all the more rewarding when you finally nail it. Takes a bit of getting over that initial phase.

That said I do enjoy racing a lot more than hotlapping, but these TT challenges are quite nice :)

Love hotlapping - hate hate hate Imola in PC2.

Love its layout btw - ie in AC its a joy to drive - its just for whatever reason some tracks feel fanatastic FFB wise and a few others dont in PC2.

Its just one of those no road detail tracks like Brno, Indy road and Ruapuna (which felt great in PC1...) for instance meaning the FFB feels so disconnected from anything going on. I just dont feel there is road contact / adhesion resulting in no immersion that Im actually there.

Right.... back to Long Beach / Banochbrae / Oulton Park, Fuji, Algarve etc... so I can forget about Imola again :)

Speaking personally, hotlapping is all about risk vs reward, with the only reward being the satisfaction of running a clean lap faster than my previous best. It's that little mental "high", from going faster, that is what I find addictive and keeps me pushing for ever faster laps. There comes a point, however, where I know I can go faster but I can't transfer that knowledge into the right signals to my hands and feet to do it. I was saying to somebody last night, in the 7 and a bit years I've been playing pCARS1 and 2, I have not once pulled off a perfect lap. I have come close, many many times, but I've never looked back at any of my laps and said to myself "yep, I nailed every corner to perfection, I can do no better" and I don't doubt every hotlapper out there is in the same boat.

My current <1m30 is far from perfect. As I was doing the lap, I was criticising myself for the way I took a lot of the turns. I will have another stab at it before the month is out just to see how much I can improve on that lap by. I might even nick Puff's setup to see what's possible with that (but invalidating the lap before I start of course :) )

EDIT : As a practical example, I was running a combo last night where I know I can go 0.2s faster than my current time. I know exactly how to do it but I had to stop as no matter how many laps I ran, I failed to string it all together in one lap. I'd be up nearly 0.2s in the 1st sector, flat in the 2nd and then make a complete pigs-ear of the last sector. Then the next lap would have a poor 1st sector but a new PB for S2 and S3. After lap 4 of the combo, every single one of the laps was within a tenth of each other, but I always failed to put the best sectors together in one single, glorious, lap. If I make that lap, it will be as perfect a lap as I've ever run but, for now, it will sit in my very long list of "almost" laps!

Yeah it’s always the same, that turn was perfect, missed the apex, could’ve carried a bit more speed... I stopped yesterday after I improved my 28.9 by a tenth. All perfect sectors combined would be a 28.7, all perfect corners maybe another tenth.

For me its a personal challenge. Sure, I'd like to appear at the top, but there is nothing quite like running a track and knowing that there is another second sitting in those corners for you to master. I'm starting to get a bit of a feel for how much time is still available to find, and that is great fun for me. Adding in refining this through car setup adds that extra challenge. I get the frustrations though. Sometimes you just wish all those corners would go well in the same lap...

Oh and some advice if you are finding it frustrating. Don't spend all your time chasing the ghost car in number one spot. You don't learn a track then and you are pushed into racing beyond your limits. I sometimes follow the ghost once I'm competent around the track so I can gain hints for improvement, but learning is not done in a race...Instead go into settings, turn off tyre wear, body damage, engine damage and fuel consumption. Then set the date/time/conditions in a private testing setting to the same as the TT and voila. You now have a lower pressure version of the same scenario that you can practice without feeling you need to hit your best lap.
