Project CARS 2
Revolution Cup Season 6

Project Cars 2 drivers began our LMP3-powered sixth edition of the Revolution Cup in March, completing the opening American leg of the 6 round championship, kicking things off at Road America. In qualifying for race 1, it was the familiar face of ProjectPD on pole position, joined on the front row by surprise challenger CatchAGlimpse. These two finished race 1 in the same order they started, with Elodyr joining them on the podium. For the next race, Puffpirat split the previous front row in qualifying, but suffered his 2nd race retirement in a row, rounding out a disappointing first round for the traditional title protagonist. It was again ProjectPD leading home CatchAGlimpse, with Corentin_Bergès recovering from his race 1 start line explosion with an impressive third.

Round 2 took place at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas. ProjectPD once again took pole position and took the win with a tiny margin over long time rival Puffpirat. The duo were in a class of their own, finishing 43 seconds clear of ProjectPD's teammate Determined Hangman. ProjectPD found an incredible turn of pace in the second qualifying session, bagging pole by a whopping 1.2 seconds ahead of CatchAGlimpse. His new found speed wasn't enough for the race however, as Puffpirat stormed home to win with a comfortable gap to CatchAGlimpse in second and Taorminator in third.

Moving on to the Asian leg, the drivers did battle under the shadow of Mount Fuji for round 3 of the championship. With ProjectPD absent, this was to be Puffpirat's golden opportunity to recover from his double DNF in round 1. Siezing the chance with both hands, Puffy lead home his other rival CatchAGlimpse and Elodyr in both races.

PD returned for round 4 at a wet and wild Zhuhai, but was unable to stop Puffy winning both races again. In race 1 PD trailed his rival by a few seconds, but with a comfortable gap behind to podium returnee Corentin_Bergès. PD would have finished third (behind an impressive run from kobusnell), on the podium again in race 2, were it not for an uncharacteristic spin on the final corner of the race. With his car facing backwards and stalled mere meters from the finish line, PD reversed his car in a bizarre drag race with Corentin_Bergès to the line. In possibly the oddest photo finish caught on film, Corentin_Bergès squeaked by to bag his second podium of the night!

Time will tell just how costly PD's spin was, as Puffpirat and CatchAGlimpse both look strong at the top of the drivers' championship. Join us for round 5 at a (hopefully) sunny springtime Silverstone on the 2nd of May.

Hotlap Championship draws to a close
March took our members to the Sidewinder layout of the Mojave fictional circuit in the slightly bonkers Mitsubishi Evo VI SVA Time Attack car. With laptimes of under a minute, the battle for the win was always going to be tight. As it was, PiGuy lost his TT crown, displaced by a late charge from Sonic putting in a 55.835s run on the default setup. PiGuy settled for 2nd place, with a 55.959s lap and Iceman07 returned to RSR with aplomb, taking 3rd place with a 56.203s lap.

As has been the case throughout this championship, there was an abrupt change of pace for the next round. A proper crowd-pleaser of an event, but without the crowds to please, the event saw just a dozen members take the fabulous Aston Martin GTE to the legendary Le Mans circuit. With just a few days to go, it looked like another returning member, in the shape of PatatorJohn, was going to mark his return to RSR with a win. Someone had other ideas, that someone being ProjectPD. Throwing down the gauntlet with a pCARS2 WR time of 3m48.859s, it proved to be a decisive lap and he took the win. Patator had to settle for 2nd place with a still fantastic time of 3m50.939. Taking the final podium place was serioh9 with a time of 3m53.733s.

Congratulations to Sonic and ProjectPD for their wins in March and April and thank you to all the members that took part in this time-trial championship. We are now bringing this to a close, with no further rounds taking place. Should anybody wish to run their own unofficial time-trial series, please feel free to do so.

Assetto Corsa
Race of Champions

To celebrate the end of our first Assetto Corsa championship, we held another one of our Race of Champions events on the 1 on 1 Showtime circuit. To add some spice, the car used for each round was decided by a random spin wheel, keeping the drivers on their toes and rewarding those able to adapt quickly.

At the end of a night full of slides, spins, and close finishes, it was Exited who took the honours, beating Puffpirat in the Renault Clio hot hatches. Check out the event replay, hosted by Noztra and Battenberg.

iRacing
A Great Start to the New Season

First up was the 12 hours of Sebring where we had a strong showing of 11 drivers split over 4 teams across 2 disciplines (1 x Daytona Prototype, 2 Ferrari GTE & 1 Mercedes AMG). Team Pink consisting of Vernux, grobi0815 & ramdrop won the event with a flawless drive from start to finish, making up a massive ...1 position(!), to take a convincing win. Team Green, consisting of Gosku and Nismo sustained heavy damage but kept going to the end, crossing the finish line at the same time as Team Pink:

rsr gte.png

Unfortunately, both Team Red and Team Yellow were involved in incidents and had to retire their cars early, but each team showed the ability and pace to do very well. For full race videos and comments, have a read of the Sebring Topic.

VRS March
Season 2 also marked the return of the popular VRS Endurance GT3 races, which take place on Saturdays and Sundays, and over the last 3 iRacing weeks we've been dusting off the GT3s and taking them for a spin. We skipped Week 1 at Le Mans, instead starting in Week 2, at Bathurst, looking for redemption after the difficult 12 hour race back in February. We had fab. ICEMAN and grobi0815 in the Pink BMW seat to get some momentum going but, unfortunately, the race didn't last long and the car was forced to retire.

Road Atlanta was the next track, which has just taken place, and on Saturday morning two teams took the challenge to get a good result including some mirroring of 'inter-team rivalry' for the RSR cup! Team Red, consisting of Cornworld and grobi0815, matched up against ramdrop and Vernux in the Pink team, both driving the Z4 and both giving it their all on the Saturday morning. After some strong pace by all drivers it was Team Pink who managed to finish on the podium, only a couple of seconds behind P2 after a late charge, with Team Red finishing in P8. Both teams gained multiple positions through the course of the event.

ELMS March
The ELMS series has been fairly quiet thus far and that is set to continue with two events clashing with the 24 Hours of Nordschleife and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That aside, Round 1 took place at Monza and Cornworld & Gosku looked to build on their momentum from the Le Mans race last season in the Porsche 919. Starting a commendable 4th, the team made up positions to finish in 2nd place and were one of the only two LMP cars still running in the event.

April
We have had a very successful month on the iRacing side of things.

We had 5 teams signed up for PCDC's Oulton Park Event, 3 BMW's, 1 Ferrari and an Audi.

Our blue duo of Vernux & fab. ICEMAN managed to win the event and kindly waited for the red duo of t0daY & ramdrop to cross the line together in P1 and P2. The pink team, consisting of SillySausage & grobi0815, also finished within the top 10 and we all had a lovely picture together. Our Ferrari buddies in the Yellow team, Anto & Ben Watkinson also stopped by to get involved. Sadly, Team Green had to retire due to early incidents, which was a pity considering they showed they had good pace.

VRS April
We took part in 3 VRS Endurance races this month: Laguna Seca, Sebring and Lime Rock Park. Sebring was up first and on the morning of the PCDC Oulton Park event, so it was a great chance to get used to the Z4 and put some times together. We introduced the Orange team for this event and ramdrop grobi0815 and fab. ICEMAN took part. We started P2 and with P1 spinning on Lap 2, we never looked back and took the win with a decent gap at the end.

We had two teams signed up for the next race at Laguna Seca. Raigore and The Wayfaerer opted to do the Saturday evening session and started to make friends with GermanSimRacing, who unfortunately hit them and forced them to retire. On Sunday Rexxody and ramdrop took part and after a poor qualifying (P9) managed to work their way up in the race to finish P4. This was Rexxody first time in the Z4 - this was all leading up to the special event, Nordschleife.

To round off the VRS section, we had a "jokey" race at Lime Rock Park which despite being absolute mayhem, was at the same time rather fun. grobi0815 and ramdrop took the Orange car for a spin whilst Vernux and Gosku took the Red car. After a chaotic first few laps, Vernux unfortunately got involved in an incident and had severe repair time, whilst team orange kept pushing on and by the end of the second stint, were comfortably in P1. grobi0815 took over and kept consistent lap times, despite minimal practice, and after an incredibly close shave won the event by no more than a few tenths! This was the Orange car's second win over two races.

ELMS April
This was unfortunately quite a quiet month, in part due to other races but also drivers not having enough time to take part in the events. However, we managed to get one event going at Sebring with Vernux and Gosku behind the wheel and taking the win - another great result for RSR!

Coming up
All we can say is, May the 4th be with you! It's coming, and without a doubt the hardest 24h event that iRacing has hosted to date - Nordschleife. A track that only has lighting around the GP circuit with the rest bathed in darkness, it might be known as The Green Hell but we think this'll be more like The Black Hell! Here is a screenshot just to show how dark it really is:

download.png

(Bonus points for those who tell us where this was taken - yes, we know it's Nordschleife, but whereabouts on it ;))

For this event we have two team entries:
RevolutionSimRacing Pink - BMW Z4 GT3: grobi0815 Rexxody Gosku ramdrop
RevolutionSimRacing Red - BMW Z4 GT3: t0daY Puffpirat Vernux fab. ICEMAN

rFactor 2
The Mountain fought back!

March started off in style with a Triple header of 12hr races. With 22 drivers spanning 14 different teams, this was one of our busiest months for rFactor2, kicking off with the 12hrs of Suzuka for Round 2 of the P1LMS series. The race started in style with Me, Myself and I alone taking an early lead. All RSR LMP2 cars were in the top 8 and showing competitive pace, with both the GTE teams having a good initial run and seeing only minor issues. The race took a turn for the worse with a 1hr Red Flag due to a technical issue with driver swaps and the race then restarting under Full Course Yellow (FCY) conditions. The final hour made for a thrilling close to the race with a late rain shower seeing all cars changing to wet tires.

The 2nd part of the triple header took place at Sebring, The race started off well for all cars but quickly took a turn for the worst, the Division 2 LMP2 team failed to finish due to a headlight bug with the Sebring circuit. the Division 3 GT team had a promising race running in a podium position but due to a technical issue failed to finish. The Division 4 teams once again were the teams to finish the race, scoring decent points having endured a tough race.

Following the disappointment of Sebring, we ended the triple header with a trip to Australia to take on 1 of the toughest races of the year - 12hrs of Bathurst Which surely couldn't be as bad as Sebring, that being said, due to a damage repair issue all cars(not just ours) were unable to repair so sadly this was a race of pain and disappointment.

Congratulations to all drivers who took part in the gruelling triple header, it was a tough 3 weeks with a hugely condensed testing schedule but we made it!

April saw a return to the normal schedule. The Penultimate round of the Virtual Endurance Championship(VEC) took place at Silverstone with an uncharacteristically dry race! It was a successful race for all the RSR cars, seeing both LMP2s finishing on the podium and both GTEs finishing in the top 6. A good haul of points for all saw positions in the championship close further with a 2 month break until the 24Hrs of Le Mans Finale.

Round 3 of the P1LMS series took place 1 week later, again at Silverstone but with typical British weather. Starting off dry, the heavens soon opened and the rain turned the race on its head. All teams swapped to the wet tires, to reduce the risk of ending up in the gravel. With a double podium for RSR it was a successful and enjoyable race.

The rest of April has been quiet, with drivers and teams taking a well earned break before extensive testing takes place ahead of the 24hrs of Le Mans in June.

That is my fault, usually I handle the MoM but I've just stepped back from racing and RSR admin for the time being as life is a bit busy. MoM will return as soon as I have the time :)
