I'm looking to get a GTX 1060 6GB or a GTX 1070 8GB. I'm not wanting to spend all that much really as I want to get VR at some point, I know a 1060 is VR ready but is it really worth getting one? oh and I'm not a AMD fan it has to be Nvidia anyway here's a link to the one I'm looking to get.

https://www.cclonline.com/product/2...I-Express-3-0-DisplayPort/HDMI/DVI-D/VGA3545/

If you can afford it, I would 100% go with a 1070. Its between 30-50% faster and you will be able to feel a big difference in VR.

If you are up for it, maybe even try find a 1070Ti on the used marked. Just make sure it hasn't been used for mining. Many people are selling their "old" cards now, since Nvidia launched their RTX 20xx series.

Ive opened a thread with a similar question before building my computer you might find some interesting feedback in there. I will edit this post with the link when I come back from work.

In summary : I was going for a 1070 but many people here said it was the bare minimum to have a good vr experience in pcars 2. I found a good deal a few weeks before the RTX cards released at EVGA. I had a GPU+PSU bundle : a gtx1080 and a 850w bronze psu for 700€ish (cant remember the exact price). If I deduced the actual price of the psu from the bundle price, that meant I had the 1080 for roughly the price of a 1070. That's why I increased my budget a tiny little but had significant performance increase. You might wanna take a look there ;)

EDIT : this kind of bundle is not available anymore, only 1060 bundles now. I guess they were gone fast ^^'

A 1060 won't cut it for VR, not in pCARS2. Yes, it will work but you will be in reprojection mode almost the entire time, unless you sacrifice some of the graphical detail. A 1070 should be the bare minimum you look at but, as Taorminator suggests, you'd be much better off with a 1080 or 1080ti (but, even then, you won't get a constant 90fps in ALL scenarios - start at the front of a 30-car grid at night at one of the newer circuits and you'll still struggle).

I have barely touched ACC or rF2 to know how they cope in VR but I know that AC and iRacing run as smooth as silk on my 980GTX, which is roughly similar to a 1060.

No-one mentions AMD, so guess it's up to me. Don't feed the green monster and go Vega! :)
Since you're talking about 1060, keep in mind they're working on GDDR5 refresh version of that.
Also, RX 590 will be soon released, 14nm manufacturing - clock boost - probably faster than 1060.

I am tempted yes with the 1070 its with in my budget so I probably get one. hoping with the black Friday sales I'll grab 1 on discount if not I may tempt myself with getting one on finance.

I wish :( the prices are way out my league at the moment.

And another thing. :)

Unless you are a huge fan of ASUS, then I wouldn't pay a 82 pund premium over a for instance a MSI Armor 1060.

https://www.cclonline.com/product/2...X-1060-ARMOR-6GB-OC-V1-Graphics-Card/VGA3841/

The same with a 1070.

ASUS is 440 pund and MSI Armor is 402 pund.

Infact I am a huge fan of ASUS haha so the possibility of buying a asus 1070 is rather high.

Don't buy RTX cards mate. :) They aren't worth the money.

If you can, try find a GTX 1080Ti on black friday or find a used one who hasn't been used for mining. Its a much faster card and its the same price/cheaper than a RTX 2070.

ATM none of the RTX cards are worth the extra price.

I like my 1080Ti so much, I'm thinking about getting a custom water loop (plus CPU) to extend it's life a bit more till Nvidia brings a real upgrade.

Purely looking at Asus, I like my Asus products too so I understand you prefer them, even though they are always on the top end of the price range, it looks like this. ROG Strix line:

1070 419€
1070 Ti 519€ (you can get a dual fan Asus for 440€)
2070 615€
1080 Ti 900€ (they are phasing out, prices are climbing again, used should be a whole lot cheaper)

I gotta say, going high range manufacturer on a mid range card, yeah, you potentially could get a better card/GPU from a different manufacturer.

Purely looking at new cards, not used, I have to say that 2070 doesn't look too shabby price/performance wise. It can't compete with a good used 1080Ti though. That 1070Ti makes the 1080 kinda obsolete.

@Puffpirat What website is the screenshot from pls?
I'd like to see Vegas in that graph :)
Looks like Vega64 is faster on vulkan and opengl than 2070, but I would expect 2070 to win average of windows directx games.
And don't let me start with nvidia's open-source linux drivers. Anyway, I know you guys don't care about that.
