Project CARS 2
Ferrari Challenge

We're only 2 months into 2019, and we've already started & finished a whole championship in Project Cars 2! Drivers did battle in the Ferrari 488 Challenge around the classic circuits of Ferrari's homeland: Mugello, Imola, Monza, and... Dubai? I suppose that makes sense nowadays.

It was a new year of racing, but it was the same old names at the front. fab. ICEMAN and ProjectPD emerged as the title protagonists, both sharing wins in the first 6 races of the championship. Arriving at the final round of the championship, Fab had a slim lead in the points. After a spooky 1st race in which the rivals finished 5th and 7th, Fab sealed the championship in style with a win ahead of second placed PD. A string of 3rd place finishes early in the season foreshadowed Elodyr's final championship position, who ended up 53 points behind the dominant German duo.

RSR/PRD Sprint Series
Another championship was tied up at the start of 2019, with the final rounds of the RSR / PRD Sprint Series taking place at Willow Springs and Long Beach. In the Californian desert, it was once again fab. ICEMAN dominating proceedings with 2 wins and a second. In race 1 he was joined by ovivoJR (2nd) and GosuNoob (3rd); ProjectPD (2nd) and ovivoJR (3rd) again in race 2; and split the PRD sandwich of Josh (1st) and GosuNoob (3rd) of race 3. With his stellar run throughout the season, Fab was tantalisingly close to wrapping up the championship with 3 races to go. He would have to wait until the final round at Long Beach to cap off his title campaign.

In a bit of an anti-climax, he didn't have to wait long. With the bonus 5 points for scoring pole position, Fab was crowned champion of the RSR / PRD Sprint Series whilst sat on the grid! And as if to prove his credentials, he went on to win race 1 ahead of ProjectPD and ovivoJR. Race 2 saw the top 2 from race 1 swap positions, with PD leading home Fab and Ovivo again. PD would once again emerge victorious in the final race of the season, with Taorminator and team mate Feanor joining him on the podium.

It is no surprise to see that fab. ICEMAN won the driver's championship by a hefty 114 point margin. He and his Ginetta proved to be a potent combo from round one, and we congratulate him on such a dominant season. Although ProjectPD finished a distant second in the points, hats off to him for putting the edgy Aston Martin higher in the results than it should have been throughout the season. Also congratulations to Taorminator for a strong run to third, beating a gaggle of quick drivers to a closely contested third in the championship. In the teams championship, it was another story of RSR domination, with Nonchalant Revolution leading Radical Reserves Racing and I'll Be Back Motorsport in the final standings.

On behalf of the RSR and PRD staff, thank you to all competitors for taking part in the championship and making it another success. Stay tuned for future events pitting both communities against each other in the future!

Hotlap Championship - Rounds 4, 5 and 6
December saw our members taming the wild Renault Sport R.S. 01 around the tight walled track of Long Beach. fab. ICEMAN had taken an early lead and despite the best efforts of Puffpirat , he held on to that spot with a stunning lap of 1m12.164, with Puff having to settle for P2 just 0.034s behind with a time of 1m12.198s. PiGuy took the remaining podium spot with his time of 1m12.676s. With one sole exception, all participants in this round chose to run with the default setup!

Moving into the new year, we slowed the pace down and set up an all Japanese challenge, with the mighty Nissan GTR R35 tackling Fuji. The round started a week later than scheduled and a hectic January racing schedule saw participation drop to just 15 members but the competition was still pretty fiercely fought. PiGuy took top honours for January with a time of 1m44.515s, set on a custom setup, closely followed by Hujkis, just 0.104s behind with a 1m44.619s lap on a default setup. Our very own SillySausage took third place with the only other sub. 1m45s lap, stopping the clock at 1m44.858s.

February stayed with road cars and set our members an all-German combo, taking the BMW 1M Stanceworks to the famous Nürburgring GP circuit. With a full 4 weeks available, the RSR members set about dominating the top of the leaderboards, in the end securing the top 12 spots! It was PiGuy again, in a repeat of his win in Round 5, taking top honours with a time of 2m06.490s on a custom setup, albeit very close to default. Joining him on the podium were regular time-trialler Born2BSlow in 2nd spot, with a time of 2m06.938 and just 0.002s behind was Nakor with a time of 2m06.940s.

Congratulations to fab. ICEMAN and PiGuy and thank you to everybody who took part in these last 3 rounds.

March will see a big change of pace again, this time setting our members the challenge of taming the wild Mitsubishi Evo VI SVA Time Attack monster around the Mojave Sidewinder layout. With PiGuy having taken top honours in the last two rounds, will we see his crown wrestled from him in March? There's only one way to find out! The round closes at midnight on the 31st of March, so what are you waiting for, get your laps in!

Assetto Corsa
Evolution Series

With the beginning of the new year we also launched our inaugural racing series in Assetto Corsa, the Evolution Series, featuring DTM silhouette beasts. A large sign-up set the stage for 38 drivers to compete in a 6-round calendar across a variety of circuits around Europe.

The opening round was held on familiar territory for most of the entrants, taking place at the Belgian circuit of Zolder, a familiar sight in the real-world DTM championship. Puffpirat took top honours for the round, with Duppy and Jeff[NL] taking 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

The series popped down to Austria for Round 2, racing on another stalwart of the real DTM series, Salzburgring. Taking the top spot this time around was Alex Salmon, whilst the winner of round one, Puffpirat, had to settle for 2nd place. Taking the final podium spot was Exited, in P3, with his first podium finish!

Continuing the European Tour, Round 3 headed to Poland and the fast, flowing circuit of Tor Poznan. A tense qualifying session saw P1 and P2 separated by just 0.006s. Having lost out on pole, by that slenderest of margins, Exited took his first win, followed by Jeff[NL] in second place and Mazy CZ, rounding out the podium.

The series continued to the twists and turns of the Hungaroring for Round 4. JetPistol earned the first grand slam of the season, by taking pole position, fastest race lap, and the win by a healthy 14 seconds. Vernux made his first visit to the podium with his second place finish, just over a second ahead of possibly RSR's biggest pretend trophy collector Puffpirat.

It wouldn't be DTM without a visit to the Zeppelinfield of Nuremberg, so for round 5 we scraped the walls and dodged the curbs of the Norisring. Diluvian continued the trend of unique winners by pipping miagi by under a second to take his first win in Assetto Corsa. A late mistake made early leader Alex Salmon drop back to third place.

The finale changed venues due to technical issues, so we closed the season at the Lausitzring. In a close 3 way fight for the win, Puffpirat lead home Alex Salmon and Exited; clinching the inaugural Evolution Cup in style! Puffy and teammate t0daY also took the team's championship by a mere 6 points over Mad Bull Racing, in what was a neck and neck fight throughout the season:

And so we drop the curtain on our inaugural Assetto Corsa championship. On behalf of all the staff, thank you to all the competitors on making this venture a success. Please leave your comments on the season in the feedback thread, and help shape the next championship!

iRacing
A Great Start to the New Year

The 24 Hours of Daytona saw a new RSR record and some phenomenal results! The first iRacing special event of the year saw our RSR family set a new record in attendance, with a massive entry of 19 drivers and 5 cars! Our rookie team of Darksi, Ben Watkinson, javoresku & Anto finished in 21st place, an excellent result for a team of rookies in a full 24-hour race. Team #278, consisting of ramdrop, Rexxody & Cornworld qualified 1st but a mishap with a lapped car dropped them back down the field but the team fought to the end to bring their car home in 18th place after a gruelling 20+ hours of driving a broken car. Meanwhile, up in split 5 and in the DP, team #69 of t0daY, Puffpirat, fab. ICEMAN & UnstopaPaul put on a masterclass of endurance driving to finish in an awesome 3rd place! Superb driving guys.

A special mention must go to team #87 of SillySausage, Battenberg, GoDATP & Raigore with a drive that will go down in RSR history with their stunning fight for P2 until the final corner! After being hit in the very 1st turn of the 24-hour race, the team had to retire the car after 30 minutes of repairs left them with a still-broken car, well down on top-speed and a hazard to other drivers. As luck would have it, the team at iRacing put on an extra event to cater for problems with a number of the splits, so the team re-entered and the rest is history. Into the final minutes of the race, Raigore was bravely doing everything he could to keep the position, but in the end he was fighting with a dull weapon but the team still brought their car home in a magnificent 3rd position.

Team #12 of Vernux, grobi0815, Gosku and David Siska were unfortunately unable to finish the race.

12 Hours of Bathurst
We started the event with a new attendance record of 4 cars on the grid for this special event and every team had the hope to survive this epic race. Sadly we also set a second record, that none of us finished the race. Every team and every driver gave their best, but taming the mountain was unreachable this time. Here is a list of our starters:
RevolutionSimRacing Pink - BMW Z4 GT3 - ramdrop, grobi0815, SillySausage
RevolutionSimRacing Yellow - Mercedes AMG GT3 - The Wayfaerer, Battenberg, Noztra
RevolutionSimRacing Orange - Mercedes AMG GT3 - t0daY, fab. ICEMAN, Vernux
RevolutionSimRacing Red - McLaren GT3 - N1kmido, Nagrom, MerlinC

ELMS January & February
We had some really good results as a revenge for our race at Bathurst in the 6 hour races.
At Interlagos David Siska and Vernux (Ferrari 488 GTE) finished the race in second position in split 2 and Rexxody, ramdrop and grobi0815 (Ferrari 488 GTE) also made second place in split 3.
In February we started at Daytona and Le Mans. The Daytona race was again a success for ramdrop and Rexxody (Ferrari 488 GTE). They finished their race in 4th place in the top split. And Le Mans was even better. On Saturday Vernux, ramdrop and grobi0815 (Ferrari 488 GTE) won their race in the top split and Gosku and Cornworld made a strong 4th place in their Porsche 919 LMP1. It was their first race together and in the LMP1. On Sunday t0daY and fab. ICEMAN did their first LMP1 race and finished on the podium in 3rd place in the top split. Last but not least Vernux and Rexxody were also driving in the top split and finished on a strong 5th place.

Team Registration Procedure Change
The following message is from your new iRacing Manager ramdrop:
Myself and grobi0815 have had a talk regarding the way forward for the iRacing teams. Those of you who race regularly will notice that a lot of other teams run in "colours" and not necessarily numbers. Since I have been racing here in the endurance events, I have run under the team 'RevolutionSimRacing Pink' and so we have come to a decision.

We wanted to find a way in that people could freely register their team to get their desired split, but not risk accidentally registering the wrong team. Similarly, if a team only has one driver with registration rights that doesn't show up, that team is going nowhere fast. So to avoid these potential problems, going forward from the start of S2/Sebring we will be implementing this tweaked process:

There will still be a weekly thread here on the forum where drivers can sign up and form teams together to race. However, rather than racing under a number, you'll have a colour! grobi0815 has created 5 teams to begin with: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow & Pink, and is an administrator to all teams. I have also joined all 5 teams and have registration & invitation rights. We plan to invite people to the pre-made teams in iRacing on a race by race basis, and give them all registration rights for that race only.

Here is an example: 6 drivers want to race and split themselves into 2 teams of 3. We invite 3 into team Red and 3 into team Blue and give all 6 registration rights. If there are any drivers in multiple teams (say, leftover from a previous race), they will only have registration rights for their assigned team for their next race. Then after the race has finished, all drivers will lose their registering status.
Coming up: The VRS Endurance Series is coming back in Season 2 and we start again. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as your iRacing staff.

rFactor 2
VEC visits Sepang & A New Championship!

2019 kicked off with testing for round 4 of the Virtual Endurance Championship(VEC) at the Sepang International Circuit, famous for being one of the wettest circuits previously on the F1 calendar. With that ever-present fear of rain looming, teams had the difficult choice of focusing on a dry or wet setup. The race itself started well for all teams, but due to some unfortunate events the Division 2 LMP2 car failed to make the chequered flag, The Division 3 team had a solid race, bringing the car home in 10th position, whilst in Division 4 both teams had excellent races, with the LMP2 keeping up their impressive pace to finish a well-deserved 4th. The Division 4 GTE team started down the field in 12th place, but with strong pace and a clean race they also finished the race in 4th position, with championship rivals all failing to register strong finishes.

With Round 5 fast approaching, the teams' focus shifted to the short but twisty circuit of Estoril, a very tricky circuit for multi-class racing. Testing was a frustrating experience, with the constant traffic, but all of our teams gained valuable knowledge of both the car and rival competitors. The race itself was tough, with both LMP2 cars failing to score points. The Division 3 GT had a great start but contact with an LMP2 resulted in extensive damage, costing them the chance to score big points, but a solid recovery drive still earned the team 1 point, putting them joint P10 in the championship. The Division 4 GT qualified in P12 and with some close fights and capitalising on mistakes made by others, they saw themselves climbing the order quickly. In the final hour they were fighting for a podium finish, but had to contend with Brezlin Motorsport chasing them down quickly on fresher tires. After an hour long battle and some clever strategy calls, the team crossed the finish line to secure their first VEC podium. With this result they moved up into 4th in the championship with P3 just 20 points ahead.

The start of 2019 also saw a change in P1-Gaming's endurance racing. The introduction of a full Season(P1LMS) showed a lot of interest from RSR members, with both Endurance veterans and rookies looking to take part. RSR entered a whopping 5 official cars and 18 drivers taking to the track across the season. February saw Round 1 take place at the ever popular Sepang International Circuit. The season started off well with JetPistol taking Pole position. The race started well for everyone, and with such a strong group of drivers, it wasn't long before all RSR cars got stuck in and with traffic being difficult it made for some exciting racing. The fight for the lead lasted on and off throughout the race but sadly, in the end, it got away from us. Overall it was a great start for all cars, especially with the LMP2 cars all finishing in the top 10, with 2 of those being on the podium. The focus now shifts to Round 2 - 12hrs of Suzuka which will be a tough race with some exciting battles and as always the threat of rain.

A Wheely Nice Gesture
Back at the start of January, Jeff[NL] kindly offered to donate a brand new Logitech G29 wheel to one lucky RSR member. There was just one catch, that member had to tell us why, in no more than 100 words, they deserved to receive the wheel. With all the entries read, Jeff picked long-standing RSR member frankodrose to be the lucky recipient of the wheel. Have fun with your new wheel frankodrose and to Jeff, on behalf of all the team at RSR, we want to say thank you for such a wonderful act of kindness.

frankodrose: "Here is it my whole setup thanks Jeff[NL] :)"

I don't feel there's enough love for James' RF2 achievements in this newsletter, hopefully we'll hear more about his races next month :D

Joking aside, I know I'm biased but I think this is absolutely our best newsletter so far :). And that video of the month, that was a truly epic moment and still gives me goosebumps.

An awesome newsletter. Daytona will remain with me for a long time, but it's car #87's last 20 minutes that I'll remember ahead of my own race.I think RSR reached a new sense of "team" for me. Long may it continue guys.
