I haven't had much of a chance to look at the car in detail - is one full tank going to see us to the end comfortably, or do we need to be checking carefully for our pit strat?

From the brief test I did last night, the car uses approx. 2.5L per lap with a 90L fuel tank. The race is set to last 45 minutes, with laps likely to be in the 1m13-1m15 mark for the front runners (I'm looking at the likes of @SBart_uk here :D). That gives an estimate of 36 laps but, given that there's a pit-stop, you can probably be safe to say 36 laps is the most

36 laps x 2.5L per lap = 90L

That's on the default 'loose' setup by the way. If you're using the 'stable' setup (which I would strongly recommend for those who don't fancy the idea of dancing with death the whole race, no matter how much fun it is!) then that has slightly less wing and longer gear ratios, so fuel usage will drop a fraction, meaning even less chance of running out.

EDIT : Oh and stick to the soft tyres, the hard tyres are NOT suitable for this race IMHO.

Having done a few tests around this myself, I can only agree with @Cluck that the stable setup is the more cautious option and gets my recommendation as well. The car is deceptively comfortable with the Loose setup, but I managed to spin it within 10 laps no matter how carefully I drove. Without notice or warning it would simply slide out under me under braking or under power in the slow stuff into an unrecoverable spin in the middle of the road. Switched to the Stable setup and managed a full half an hour with no drama, until an AI finally took me out. I'm a bit slow with it - in the 1.18 region - but at least I shouldn't be a running hazard. I was close to pulling out of the race before trying the Stable setup. If you're not very confident with the car, heed the warning and go with Stable.

Lets just hope I can see the server! I've been looking forward to this one since it was announced but i'm not holding out much hope... :(

I thought this car has proper manual gearbox for some reason. Never drove a car with sequential where you need to do rev-matching before :)..
Anyway. I can do 1.15 with stable, but only when doing do-or-die laps, and the car is killing me way to often. I'm looking at 1.17-1.18 without dying too much.

Sorry for late withdrawal, I'm not sure I'll be back home in time :(
Still 190km away from home.

Not a good day for me. Worked long today, hoped I'm home early but then only just made it to the race. On the start of the race I accelerated and then the car spun on throttle. I think I crashed into Riman. I'm really sorry! Car was damaged and on Corkscrew I spun again and got some more damage. Had to repair ... when I tried to get to the pit it was occupied.

I didn't want to do a lap with the broken car so I waited till the box was free.
After a loooong repair I was 2 laps down in the middle of the field. Did a few laps but had to face that I don't have a place in the race any more as a lapped car. Not getting along with the car I Quite to Pitbox. I shouldn't have joined in the first place :(
I really hope GTR3 is good.

What a car... what a race! I had a huge amount of fun tonight, these cars feel amazing around this track.

Really happy with 4th!! Think it was earned through consistency rather than pure speed but loved every second. @Raigore was keeping me on my toes most of the race and the small battle with @Cluck was really cool :D

Thanks to all the admins and to all the racers for another great evening

Yeah, that battle was fun but I got caught out with somebody exiting the pits, which threw me right off my normal line for the next turn and with that I just lost a bit of confidence and also lost a bit of care, so I did half a dozen laps pootling around.

Huge amounts of fun though, great car and circuit combo.

Congrats to @Puffpirat on a superb race and what a return to racing for @t0daY with his P2!

Well, tonight was 3 firsts

  1. First time driving the 333. I love this car. I'd really rather like to see more of it once we had time to become friends! The engine noise is fantastic, and the way it slides around is very fun
  2. First time on Laguna Seca. I know its famous and all, but I'd never gotten round to it before. Now I wish I had!
  3. First time with the sequential shift stick. I'd been dying to try it out, so thanks for the opportunity.
Really happy with 7th place in such a field, but honestly, driving the car was the real reward tonight :)

Thank to the admins for organising a great race as always.

What a bummer. I was really looking forward to this event. Such a fun car and track combination. And Laguna Seca is the only track in the game that I've put laps on in real life.

I got caught up in the starting line fiasco, though, and never recovered.

Oh well. Hopefully the next event will go better.

@miagi
as far as i know it doesn't matter if the pits are occupied as the cars are ghosted in their pit stalls like in iRacing, so you could have just driven into your pitspot

Ah! So that's what happened! I was wondering about that. Indeed, you did smash into me, which resulted in me clipping the wall and spinning into the middle of the road, whereafter I enjoyed the dubious pleasure of being passed around and pinballed by the rest of the field =P. Coming out on the other side of that the car felt like it had been tramped by a herd of fleeing buffalo! =D
Rejoining last in a broken car is always fun, but the real kicker was limping into the pits to find out that the crew would only change my tyres and not fix my damage... which meant I had done my mandatory pit stop ( \o/ ) and had to limp one more lap fumbling with the ICM while trying to stay on track and not get in the way of the pack charging towards me, trying to slot in a strategy that would take care of the damage... 2 pits in 2 laps. Was a rough start. I had a third due to damage one more time before the end of the race...

The car and track were indeed fun and a good match. It felt quite good on the Stable setup and I managed to keep the amount of unfortunate events involving only me, down to 1. The car was under control for the rest of the race.

Luckily I mangaed to fix my server visibility problem a few minutes before the race (by changing steam server options to 250ms just incase anyone else ever gets a similar problem)

I was pretty disappointed with Qually and felt I should have had a 12 but couldn't quite hook one up. It was great fun fighting my way through the field after (embarrassingly) getting some wheelspin up the hill at the start causing me to almost spin as well as taking some cones out.
Then I had a coming together with Hujkis in T3. That caused me to Pit on Lap 1 and hope I could put in some decent laps in some clean air... as well as having no idea if the tyres would last the whole race. Everything was going well and I was in 3rd after everyone else had pitted. Then Manu had spun in the corkscrew and that gave me P2 only for me to spin twice in 3 corners a lap later handing the place back.
Overall a great combo, The car and track were great together.

We were pretty much neck and neck there if I recall correctly, I thought I went slow enough to the corner, but I could have taken that corner a bit tighter. Not enirely sure whose fault it was, but I'm happy to take the blame. Sorry!

No problem and no need to take the blame. I think it was 50/50 after watching the replay. You were completely entitled to have go there and I should have seen you or your proximity marker to be honest and left a bit more space :).

Had a ton of fun on that one.

Didn't get a really clear run in quali, saw potential for almost a second faster but happy with 7th, start of the race went well but I started pushing too hard too soon. Lack of practice with a fully fueled up car and traffic showed and I went wide on the first lap after misjudging a braking point, and not massively long after I span and hit a wall enough to get about 40-50% front damage and a 90 degree steering offset. Limping to the pits I was happy that I'd made about 8 different strategies for various occasions, so I could get by with minimal issues, but joined the track either last or second to last. After that I calmed down and kept trucking, losing the car only once for more moderate front damage that only slowed me down by about a second per lap, which wasn't that bad considering how long a pitstop would take, so I just toughed it out for the rest of the race. Car went a bit Zoolander on me and refused to turn in both directions, but that was more interesting to overcome than truly harmful.

So nothing really went properly right for me, but that just made it all the more interesting, and I did almost manage to get back to top 10, so yay for that. Fun and eventful race, truly worthy of the name "Corkscrewed". =)
