This is the feedback thread for the Revolution Cup - Season 7. Specific feedback that we are looking for includes the following:-
  • Positive, negative, neutral feedback, whatever comes to your mind!
  • Which car would you like to drive for season 8?
  • How did you like the Team Championship?
  • How did you like the schedule?
  • Do you have any other general feedback?

I liked a lot:

-The general fun going around before and after the races
-The very competitive players and full grid
-Schedule, although would probably prefer a couple more rounds
-Duration of races

I did not like:

-Way too many crashes in most races
-Track limits, very large amount of infractions IMO. I have watched some people in replays and they do it intentionally lap after lap, not just going wide/cutting the corner, but also going wide outside much before the corner arrives, to have a better line through it.
-Second race start order = finishing order of first race. If there was a problem in race 1, you earned a double yummy for race 2 :)

If you do not go to the stewards we can not do anything about it. Can only repeat myself, report this behaviour!

  • Positive, negative, neutral feedback, whatever comes to your mind!
I have to say I was doubtful when the clio was announced. Last time I tried the car it was confusing compared to every other (RWD) car and its pretty much the slowest thing out there. Boy was I so wrong. Not only did it give really close racing (expected), but it also allowed me the opportunity to race full tilt when right behind another car - something I've never had the confidence to do in faster, RWD cars where the dirty air flips you.

Postive
  • Great close racing
  • Awesome friendly team mates. 10/10 would race with again
  • Good to see some new competitive faces. The old guard were still there, but some newcomers made for less predictable results (in a good way)
  • overall I think 3 person team is a good addition. There is more chance for team spirit
  • The tracks were a genuinely good mix of styles. The difference between monza and bathurst was a particularly unique addition
  • The response to the issues of race 1 was great (see below)
  • Allowing people to run round and pit before race start on race 2. This seemed sportsmanlike. We are all here to enjoy ourselves and race.
  • removing monaco was a great move. Not putting it in would have been even better ;)
  • The fact that the RSR admin team are willing to put new experiments in each season. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, but each time we learn.
Neutral
  • The last few seasons have been 2 races, both of which are sprints. I'm mostly fine with this, but it does leave something lacking in the strategy department. Do I have to refuel? No. Change Tyres? No. Consider the undercut? No. Maybe this is not the most important aspect. Certainly its been really fun to practice the close quarters racecraft that I was lacking. I hope I (mostly) provided a positive experience to race against. It would be really interesting though to look once more at 1hr races or at least races that force you to consider "do I pit or save fuel" and "is it worth new tires".
  • 2nd race order based on race 1 finish. I guess this is just the same as saying "you get a break and a safety car at 20mins", so not overly fussed. A 1 hour race would equate to the same as this season.
  • The sad situation with the wet weather. I enjoyed it because it added the only strategy decisions to the entire championship, but sadly it felt slightly artificial. I will happily do a tires test if needed before weather is declared for the first time next season to ensure there is no signficant surprises.
Negative
  • It was delt with well by race 2, but I think its worth bearing in mind for next season: last minute track limit changes are pretty unfair, particularly if the party line for days in advance has been "there are no track changes".
  • Race 1 track limit abuse was in general terms, utterly abysmal. It was the low point of the season, but fortunately, everything after that was awesome.
  • We do lack something in the form of an induction for newcomers. I'm not saying bring induction night back. But perhaps pre-season could be more structured and mandatory? It would sure by nice if there were not people talking over the "green green green" or telling people to swap sides when they're not race coordinators. I would happily be part of that session if it meant the new people were up to speed in race 1 rather than race 4.

Car for Season 8
Crazy suggestion. Multi-class season where one of the classes is a car that uses an H-Shifter. There are so many awesome cars out there that we stay clear of because of an assumed advantage for anyone using a proper shifter. It might even be possible to pick 2 classes that are pretty even in performance (if that was actually a good idea). In fact, the GT0 class actually has both H and Sequential cars (the lambo), though still multi-classing the championship might make sense since they appear to be 10 years apart.

Cars: V8 Supercars, F Rookie (HShift), Audi 90 IMSA GTO (HSift), Ferrari 333SP, Ford Escord RS1600 Racing (HShift). Touring cars will always get a vote and dare I say it, its been long enough since GTEs that I'm even thinking that could be a refreshing change. If we're doing GT3 I wonder if limiting the options or selecting a specific car would avoide the innevitable "this car is OP" accusations.

Team Championship
Teams good, 3 people seemed to work well for us. Smoking Aces Super-Premier-Team took a bit of the fun out of it though, though to be fair, Radgie Gadgies are missing 10 starts, so maybe its ok.

Schedule
Thursdays are fine for me. 2 weeks+1 off is good. A slightly longer gap between seasons would be nicer from my PoV, but I appreciate that not everyone goes overboard when preparing. Also there is no way I can ever consider an AC league when I know there's likely to be simultaneous PC2 leagues. If the next league offers more than one car, can we have a decent gap between announcing the cars and the first race? (Hide the tracks if you want, but working out the car to drive is pretty involved sometimes).

Other
  • Thanks so much to the organisers who continue to put so much of their valuable time into arranging, running and then stewarding these events so that I can have fun. If you've ever been involved in running a club or organisation you'll know how much these guys put in behind the scenes that you don't even see. RSR is a great place because of it.

If you do not go to the stewards we can not do anything about it. Can only repeat myself, report this behaviour!

It's not that simple, specifically reporting someone that I did not have a direct competition with can lead to all sorts of other trouble. Especially coming from someone very new here. I did speak in the beginning about the crashing, but I felt I was already talking too much, so stopped doing any reports after the first couple rounds.

I do not envy you guys organizers/mods about this, especially with such long grids and races you cannot really police this and I would never ask to do it, I am involved in many leagues and I do know how very time consuming it is to deal with all the rest already. I only wish some people were putting some more effort on this by themselves. Actually I wish the game had a built-in system that made more sense so that this could be used instead, but that's a different discussion.

Btw, I very much enjoyed this league and thanks a lot for providing it! I am talking more about the negatives because I feel those areas need improvement, but the general feeling from participating was definitely very positive!

For season 7, I can only speak for the last race, but I can compare with the 'old' RSR formula.

Positives:
  • Great car/track combo.
  • Nice organization.
  • Improvement in the stewards transparency, I like it.
  • Much, much less chatter in Teamspeak, what a relief, I love it!

Negatives:
  • Too much contacts for my taste, too close racing, which lead to all sorts of catastrophe. Maybe it is because it was the last race, I was reserve, and/or the car/track combo which isn't easy, but I got more contacts in this one than the rest of all my RSR races.
  • 'Open' track limits, which essentially rely on all player's honesty, which I don't believe :p
  • Insufficient room for strategy, plus unpredictable race duration. In fact, it is impossible to compute the correct amount of fuel.

Suggestions:
  • I've also followed the 'track limit' change in Zolder. It was good to relax at the chicanes, since that's the spirit in this circuit, but I understand the concerns of those who trained for hours with one rule, to see it changed a few hours before the race. Probably this should be settled at the start of the season, or at least a week before the race.
  • As usual, I think the track limit rule should be enforced by the software. I know @t0daY love the idea ;)
  • Have the stewards review the races and apply penalties without the need of a report, at least for the most obvious infringements.
  • Maybe an unusual track would spice a bit the season (Rouen, Brannock, Azure Coast, anything Alien?).
  • Or once per season, a totally random track, to be settled at the briefing? That would rock :stig:
  • As car, the Ford GT LM GTE, which I love the balance, or maybe the Formula Indy?

Positives :
  • Cars without DF but slipstream sensitive
  • Tracks with long straights, Monza short was awesome, Bathurst even more
  • Close racing was awesome, Monza felt like a moto gp race, swapping positions every lap, finishing order unpredictable until the finish line
  • The wet races and random weater. Especially random weather that you don t know before the race!
Neutral :
  • FWD car, didn't mind it, didn't love it. But quite good to learn driving technique
Negatives :
  • The Cli Cli was good for close racing but quite boring to drive on your own (not challenging enough). I think this turned down some people to keep interest in the season
  • Some of the tracks. I don't find anything fun in Catalunya short and Zolder was meh. Don't know for Sonoma, wasn't there. Tracks with long straights felt much better because you had to strategize your attacks and result was unpredictable
  • Wet tyres were useless and unrealistic, it made wet race strategy useless and frustrating
Suggestions :
  • Cars : V8 supercars, V8 supercars, V8 supercars, Porsche GT3RS road legal (can we actually give this a shot?), touring cars, KTM x bow GT4. Generally, something challenging to drive but not sensitive to dirty air and that allows some reasonable door banging
  • Reverse grid for race 2
  • Multiclass with split qualification process
  • Race strategies like mandatory refueling and or tyre change or even better weather transition for more races
  • Unknown weather conditions before the race

I only took part in 1 round and that one was the last one so my feedback is purely based on that one.

Positive:

-Nice car that provides close battle's all over the field for everyone most of the time!
-Well bathurst was a nice track so tracks were nice.
-The standing start for race 1 and rolling for race 2 was nice changed it up a little.
- Race 1 a sprint race and Race 2 a longer race was nice, although I would like an even longer race 2 or mandatory pit stop to make it a bit more interesting.

Negative:

-Having team of three people is nice for having my talking and set up and practice work (although I was not active for my team sorry) It kinda hit my OCD with the liveries who are mostly for 2 persons teams. :p

Idea for next seasons:

Surprise me?

Positive Feedback
- Car choice was perfect although I was originally skeptical. The slower speeds allowed the field to be closer and the lack of dirty air allowed bumper to bumper battles to rage on for an entire race. Loved it!
- Standing start for Race 1 was good
- General organisation e.g. Server being up on time, races starting on time etc. has been superb this season.
- Pretty much everything positive in the posts above I can also repeat.

Neutral Feedback
- More variety in race times / weather. I know there were two wet events this season and these were great but I know the dry tyres killed this experience. This includes changeable conditions, dry -> wet. Potentially we could do more than 2 slots and do a dry -> wet -> dry or vice-versa.
- Reverse top 8/10 could have mixed things up a little - given the overtaking potential of these cars anyway I don't think we would have seen many more incidents than what we did. Would like to see this returned for the second race.

Which car would you like to drive for season 8?
- Ginetta GT5 (the ones we had the mini-series in) these were superb for racing and were similar to the Clios just RWD.
- TC/GT5/GT4/GT3/GTE
- Open wheelers
- Anything with wheels - lets get S8 underway already!!

How did you like the Team Championship?
I liked the idea of 3 man teams but I think most teams struggled to field a full team each week. I think the Smokin Aces were one of the few teams to do so for all rounds. I think the Pro/Am selection worked well and prevented any form of "domination" and also gave the chance for others to improve learning directly from a faster driver, although this doesn't always work out as intended.

How did you like the schedule?
I think the 2 races then a 1 week break worked well, just as it did last season. Would like to see a repeat for next season.

Do you have any other general feedback?
- Maybe one or two extra races on the calendar but maybe I feel this way because the Clios were so damn fun to race!
- The first few days of signups for Season 8 should be restricted to full members only (green wheel) and then allowing the rest to filled by those on probation. Originally when I signed up for this season I was on the reserve list after the signup sheet only being open just over a day. A good chunk of these people never turned up so I could have potentially not bothered with the first race/the championship.

Big thank you to all the staff and stewards for their continued hard work to keep this community what it is today and to everybody that has raced this season, it has been an absolute pleasure to race with you all. Some long, hard fought, tough battles with so many of you and I hope to see you all next season!!

Now for the personal mentions:

@Puffpirat - Congratulations mate on a well deserved title win! Being able to compete so closely with you and sometimes get the upper hand of you in some races has made it a highlight the season and if not my RSR journey so far. After joining RSR and seeing you as an untouchable :blackalien: I never thought I would be fighting with you week in week out. I made some progress last season in the LMP2 and proud to have stepped up again this season to give you someone else to worry about ;) fingers crossed I get this pleasure next season.

@steveg200 - Shame you didn't do a whole season... with all 6 races you would have had my bet for the championship. Clean racing and fighting with you, in some cases for an entire race up the front was amazing. Appreciate all the practice and testing in the days leading up the race - making it even easier to put in the work required to challenge for top positions every week.

@UnstopaPaul - It is great seeing you progress similar to myself - after joining RSR and being near the back, then the middle of the pack and now fighting at the top, its been great to follow and to fight you off 2nd place over the season was very tough. Puffy was an obvious target in the races as somebody to finish ahead but midway through the season I had to ensure I finished ahead of you so this pushed me even harder to improve. Hopefully we can push each other as hard next season.

Have the stewards review the races and apply penalties without the need of a report, at least for the most obvious infringements.
We have implemented Orange Zones for lap 1-2 in Assetto Corsa that are reviewed post race by default by the staff/stewards. This involves checking for track limits, any contact and a full race track limit check on 4 random drivers. This is only possible because of the ability to quickly navigate the replays and be able to “fly around” the track separately to the cars, this means we can Quickly monitor each corner and each incident in any angle. Penalties are applied should the incident be worthy of punishment. Accidents do happen though.

As for Project Cars 2, it’s almost impossible to review the races because of the time it takes, you cannot skip through the replay aswell as not being able to fly around in a useful way. The time it would take to review each car for every lap of every race would take too long to even consider
Post automatically merged:

Having said that, we do look at improving the stewards room and since you last raced(I believe) we have implemented a licensing system which means should drivers be involved in an incident and penalties applied drivers would normally receive a licence point(s) these have consequences

We have given out penalties for this in our AC leagues. But only when it’s been a chaotic start

Surprise me?

Yes - I definitely second this. Timing for starts has been really good this season. 7.30 underway, then knowing that 7.45 IS when you are going to qualifying has been great. As someone streaming it also makes it far more predictable

I definitely thing there is something in this. I'm quite active on forums, but it really does feel like if I were to have a long day at work and not want to check the forum for one evening that I might have been on the reserves list. I think in AC you were prioritising previous attendance. Might be a place to start.

This also reminds me - I really liked the "no show / no inform = go to the back of the reserves". I think this both encouraged people to plan and allowed clear hope to reserves for their chance to race (and continue to race for the season if they chose).

@UnstopaPaul - It is great seeing you progress similar to myself - after joining RSR and being near the back, then the middle of the pack and now fighting at the top, its been great to follow and to fight you off 2nd place over the season was very tough
Shucks. I think these cars really favoured me, perhaps specifically the FWD thing. I was going to say something similar for yourself mate. Last 2 seasons you've really pushed up a level it's been impressive. All season I was uncertain whether you or @Puffpirat was going to come out on top. I also got to have one of the best views of that battle all season :)

Maybe I can tell a bit about it, since I've been studying, questioning people and driving styles all around in order to improve myself. The quickest players usually tend to gain an advantage before long straights, meaning they master the power when exiting important specific corners.

Nothing original here. Still, that's sometimes a full second difference between an 'Alien' and the average player at those specific points. Since the Clio had little power (compared to usual racing cars), this advantage mostly vanished, which to me explain why the top pack was a bit compressed this year.

This also mean, if you guys work your exits, you may very well join the Alien pack for a fight in all categories. Keep it up! :stig:

Agreed with that. It does not favor me, but it is completely understandable, people who've been racing in this club for a long time should definitely get priority over us newcomers.

In the ideal world I'm sure it would be back to Split 1, Split 2, but the problem there is when people stop turning up you end up with 2 half full splits.

About the rain tyres problem :
I think the problem was related to the fact the car was FWD. There s no way you would have survived the puddles in RWD cars. So I encourage admins to provide us with changing conditions races, just maybe test before if the same behaviour happens as in catalunya :)

I still think splits are beneficial because it s more motivating to fight for victory in your split than it is to fight for p13. Just imagine how much dedication you need to stay motivated if you re in p21 every race as a beginner. It s not that you re bad, just not ready to fight up front and you need an objective to fight for that is at your level. Multiclass would be even better because as you don't feel you are artificially in another split but in a category of your own. A rough example would TC and Cli Cli's or GT3 and TC.
