Its impossible for me to see what your seeing but for sure further into the distance graphics get unclear due to the resolution and lenses being so close to your eyes.

As a finger in the air ballpark I would say 85% love vr warts and all. 10% don't get on with it due to nausea and 5% prefer monitors due to downgrade in the visuals.

Nothing wrong with thinking the tech is too early for you. Hopefully within a couple of years we have significantly improved tech.

For me the downgrade is a small price to pay but again I cannot validate what your seeing. Ss at 1.7 is VERY high and demanding on your system though even with a 1080ti

If the blurriness in the distance is to be expected, then so be it (I am enjoying it). As I've obviously not used one before, I wasn't sure what was right or wrong with my image:)

Well fate has decided for me....Sunday night PC kept crashing hard as I tried to start Project Cars 2...

To the point I reinstalled windows after clean Project Cars 2 folder in Documents didnt fix it either ....

Monday morning test - about 10 seconds into Project Cars 2 after track loaded an almighty woosh / whirl from a fan and a very impressive mushroom cloud coming from my PC signalled the end to my 2nd 980TI !

Thankfully PC still ok - EVGA cannot do a replacement of a 980TI so I get a 300 quid credit.

Would have much preferred it do it when Volta is out but no such luck so should get a 1080TI tomorrow :)

I'm thinking of going for the gtx1080ti as well as my 1070sc struggles with the high settings that I want to run,or do I wait for the Volta To be released.

Do you mean the Titan V that have been released?

Although I would love to I think the Mrs would banish me to the garage if I spent £2700 on a graphics card ,They will be bringing out lower spec cards with the same architecture which should be able to run my rift with all settings on ultra . hopefully.

I think I would send myself to the garage if I spent almost 3k just on a graphics card. Current prices are already crazy - its now somehow normal to spend £700-£800 on a high end card - a few years ago top of the line was £400.00. We are approaching double the price in 3-4 years.

I hope the non TI Volta's are more around the £400.00 when they come out but I would not be surprised if they are close to 1080TI prices.... there is simply no pressure on nvidia for years for the top end market.

Really wish AMD get a winning card again purely to balance out the market again.

It would be nice to see AMD bring out a competitive card ,but at the moment they are way behind so we have no choice but to buy Nvidia .The evga 1080ti I have been looking at is £700 which is nearly double what I paid for the evga gtx1070sc which I have at the moment.is it worth the extra money for the performance gain.

Roughly 60% more than a 1070 is a ballpark that seems to come across in benchmarks.

Ie below 4k comparison:

It really depends on your setup and settings but I would think with 3 monitors it would be a fairly significant upgrade assuming your at least on approx 6kx1k with the triples.

For me I would have waited for Volta if my card didnt blow up as I was doing ok with the 980ti although I definitely wanted better performance it was ok for a few months.

Really depends on you I guess - if are you ok ish with what you have now I would wait. Otherwise you spend 700 on a new card and it will be replaced in 2-3 months approx (ballpark assumption). Having said that if 700 pounds isnt breaking the bank and the urge is strong.. jump in :)

Thanks for the info @SlowBloke on the difference between the two cards.I do have triples but run pcars 2 with a rift,it would be nice to turn the settings right up for the rift.i will try and hold out until the new Volta cards get released but the gtx1080 is very tempting.do you know if a gtx1080ti can run max settings in vr

That question is the very same I asked myself at the start of this thread :)

Puff's reply was what stopped me getting the 1080ti before (see post 2 page 1).

In short I would not expect max settings in VR to be possible with 1080ti and probably not even with Volta.

With the 980ti I had the quality cranked very high compared to most people (and ss at 1.4) as I dont mind running at 45fps. That does mean I get some ghosting at times but its not bothered me too much. Puffy's point that the rift itself isnt capable of producing a significant increase in visuals makes sense to me so the hope is Im running steady 90fps with what I have set currently although I will certainly play with max settings to see what the end result is - I should hopefully get the card tomorrow so will let you know how I get on.

I wont get to spend any time in PC2 this weekend or early next week but Ive just loaded up Oulton Park with 25 GT4 AI in Thunderstorm. With a mix of SS 1.3, msaa medium, most other settings medium, some high settings & shadows ultra.

In short its a bit of a beast....

A couple of dips into ATW (45fps) for about 10 seconds in the first lap the rest of the time 100% 90 fps. So much clearer than what I had with the 980ti before due to shuddering / double image / ghosting (mainly on track side detail).

Settings used in link
https://photos.app.goo.gl/GQvuhPp2bTcHgyiO2

Its prettier than the 980ti but not night and day - the additional power is really noticeable in smoother less ghosting image.

Buttery smooth.

A major upgrade from the 980ti imo - I probably would still wait for the volta if my 980ti was still alive but it would be really hard to do knowing the difference this card makes :)
