In PCars - currently running a 980ti/6700k/16gb and have SS at 1.5 and rest low to medium in game.

Performance wise happy enough most of the time but ASW is usually kicking in - however I dont really feel thats a problem. Id rather have the SS at 1.5 with 45fps than 90fps and loss of image clarity.

I was going to wait for Volta but with hearing nvidia prices will increase very soon that depends on just what a difference graphically a 1080ti could make....

I understand the 1080ti is generally 60% faster but will that mean you can make a major graphical jump or is the increase in visual fidelity more progressive / not overly noticable in Pcars 2 with the 1080ti over a lesser card like the 980ti?

Or is there also a benefit of less ghosting etc.. too ?

If its just a bit smoother and a little bit prettier there is not much of a drive to spend £700.00+ before the Volta comes out.

Any opinions greatly received.

Thanks !

I had pc2 with both. I like to play at 90fps so the 1080Ti is appreciated.

But is the jump in quality worth 700 pounds, no. Since the 1080Ti, and pc2 looking sooo good in VR, I really want a better headset. The rift really doesn't do the game justice. There I safed you 700 quid :p

Maybe I should explain this a bit. You can crank up the settings obviously with the 1080Ti but you reach a point where the headset just can't deliver anymore. It still looks great, but it could look so much better. When we can run 1.5 SS we can easily run 2K screens, if not more.

So if you're ok with 45fps you can definitely achieve the same image quality with your 980Ti. But you could always sell the 980Ti for maybe half, maybe slightly less of a 1080Ti and make the decision easier, or harder ;)

Weird similar names and similar issue. Currently running with the 980ti and was wondering about the benefits of a 1080ti too...

Planning a new build around November so the price increase you mentioned has annoyed me tbh. Currently running a Xeon X5670@4.2 and 12gb ram@1600 so not the fastest but respectable.

I'm keeping an eye on the many discussions in Overclockers forum, a lot well informed tech heads over there sharing opinions...

I run a 980GTX and in almost all cases, I don't have a problem with my DK2 in pCARS2. OK, so it's probably not reaching the full 75fps all the time but I've never found it unplayable. Aside from Reflections and Envrionment Mapping, everything else is on Ultra in my settings, with SS set to 1.1 . A 980Ti should see you safely upping the SS setting and possibly raising those other two things to Medium maybe (though it's only puddle reflections where you notice the low reflection setting being poor)

How does the performance of the second title compare to the first? Curious about this also since I use a VR with a GTX 1070 (almost exact same performance as 980TI) , would like to know how it compares.

I think t runs better too, and if I run the same combo in both games at 1.5ss PC2 runs in the 90-95% range of GPU usage, PC1 is a flatline 100% the whole time. It's not entirely scientific as I haven't checked every setting...

Hm ok. Just curious because I too will likely be upgrading, but if the game runs better than the first I might just hold out for Volta and upgrade then.

I have troubles reading UI,Hud and Motec (any text) through rift with DS2X, on the other hand if i fully disable AA text is much clearer but game looks quite bad

Just saw this thread because i have a Rift CV1 since a few days. And I'm also still experimenting with settings because i'd like to get everything possible out of my hardware. :) I have a 1070 at the moment..
Should I disable ASW? Or just leave it to auto? SS to somewhat between 1.1 and 1.5? Should I enable "enhance mirrors"? What are your other grafic settings? MSAA? Should I be able to read the small textboxes? ;)

Also this will help....

http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?54483-VR-Guide-Setup-Settings-and-General-tips

For me I really do not mind ASW so Im able to crank up a fair few settings with my 980ti as Im usually on 45 fps.. the 1070 is very close to the 980ti performance wise so you should see similar results assuming your CPU is not a bottleneck..

Below contents of 3 files in Documents\Project Cars 2 folder - you could copy those 3 files to backup the ones you have then replace the contents in the originals with the below - start Pcars 2 and see what you think.

If you dont like ASW / are sensitive to less fps than 90 you will not be able to work with these settings though...

Got my new pc set up with the rift and the immersion is second to none, but graphically, anything very up close (own car etc) looks great, but going anything more than 50 yards from the cockpit things look quite blurry.

Any tips if help would be very much appreciated as I'm very much a VR noob

edit: For those with a Rift, do you use SteamVR?

Dont use steamvr.

There are 2 posts right above yours that give detailed info including literally all settings (see the xml file contents I posted).

You could probably get away with my settings with steady 90fps with a 1080ti vs my 980ti. If you dont mind locked to 45fps you can probably increase a fair few things starting with SS.

Cheers. Those setting made no sense to me. I shall give them a whirl tomorrow if I can figure them out:)

Tried everything now that I can find. Sees others are having issues as well. Very frustrating.

Performance isn't the issue, its the blurriness of everything 2 or 3 car lengths and further in front of me

You did set ss ? Ie 1.3 is a decent point performance v impact.

Ultimately image quality is miles behind a monitor it's the trade of for early tech but amazing immersion.

O I'm totally happy with the immersion, but just a little disappointed with the view distance being blurry

I have tried allsorts. Currently on 1.7 SS and anything passed two cars seems to be blurry. Do you not get a blurry image in the mid to long distance?

Edit: Should I just expect such a bad image quality 20 meters ahead of the car or is there something wrong for me?
